Aims & Objectives
The SSEP’s goal is to ensure that the community benefits from a vibrant and attractive business location. It does this through:
- Providing private sector employees to lead on key influencing projects alongside the public sector
- Engaging with major new entrants ensuring they are made to feel welcome and know how to become involved in the community
- Being a co-ordinated voice of businesses in Swindon when in communication with Swindon Borough Council, other public sector organisations and the community of Swindon in general
- Influencing and shaping a long term economic development strategy for the Borough from within the newly formed Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP)
- Constructively challenging all stakeholders to make a positive impact on the economy and community of Swindon.
Values
The SSEP is governed by the following values:
- Having the continuing economic success of Swindon at its heart
- Being an honest broker and neutral within political environs
- Making decisions openly and with integrity
- Working collectively and collaboratively to add value.
Representation
The SSEP is a partnership between business and the public sector, particularly Swindon Borough Council. The partnership is private sector led and supported by Forward Swindon, the economic development company for Swindon.
Management Board
Members consist of:
- Private Sector: the Federation of Small Businesses, the Swindon Chamber of Commerce, GWE Business West, Nationwide, Zurich, Honda, inSwindon, Forward Swindon and Swindon Hoteliers Group, independent representative
- Public Sector: Swindon Borough Council
The SSEP consists of an overarching Board to oversee the business of the Partnership. Working Groups will be established under the Board’s jurisdiction to focus on specific areas or projects as and when required. Structure and work of the Working Groups will be regularly reviewed by the Board.
The Board
The Board will:
- Act as the strategic body to oversee the management and development of the SSEP
- Represent the views of the local business community on matters of significance
- Champion Swindon by projecting a positive image
- Communicate SSEP activities to their respective organisations and memberships.
