All of Swindon’s schools offer a range of extended services, which take place in
and around the school at times outside the standard school day, or services that support families and
communities over and above the school curriculum. The full range of extended services includes:
Childcare and After-school Activities
Out-of-school childcare services between 8.00am and 6.00pm are available either
on-site or at a nearby location at nearly all of Swindon’s primary schools. In addition, most schools
offer enrichment activities beyond the school day - e.g. sports or arts clubs. For more information
about out-of-school childcare visit the pages.
Out of school childcare provision (before and after school)
Holiday Childcare Service
Community use
Many schools offer activities that support the wider community by allowing their
premises to be used by community groups and organisations.
Swift and easy referral to services
Sometimes additional services such as health or social services are needed to support
a child. Most straightforward situations are managed within a school’s existing support services eg
through the school nurse or with a child’s tutor. Where a situation is more complex a referral can be
made to appropriate agencies.
Parenting support
Many schools offer specialised parenting support such as information sessions or
family learning activities. Each Swindon school has access to the services of a parenting support adviser.
All schools are expected to be able to offer, host or signpost to each of these
services by 2010. To find out more about the range of extended services offered in your child’s school,
either ask at school or visit the school’s web pages. School contact details and links to school websites
where available can be found at
