
SSEP Role and Purpose
The SSEP was established in 2006 to lead Swindon's ambitious strategy for economic growth and the Partnership's Chair is Rikki Hunt, CEO of Digital City UK Ltd.
The SSEP is directly charged with the delivery of the Economic Development & Enterprise block of the Local Area Agreement, and coordinates enterprise activities alongside an exciting new agenda of business growth and innovation.
The Partnership's Aims
- To develop and promote the economic wellbeing of Swindon
- To co-ordinate and influence partners' activities to meet the Swindon Economic Development Vision and Framework
- To constructively challenge all stakeholders to make a positive impact on the economy of Swindon
- To deliver the Partnership Delivery Plan, including Local Area Agreement outcomes

Membership
The partnership is administered by the Economic Development Team at Swindon Borough Council but is led by the private sector alongside all of the other main players involved in economic development from the public and community sectors.
These organisations include:
- Private Sector: the Federation of Small Businesses, the Swindon Chamber of Commerce, individual large and small businesses
- Public Sector: Swindon Borough Council, the South West England Regional Development Agency, Business Link, the Learning and Skills Council, Jobcentre Plus, schools, FE colleges.
SSEP Projects
The SSEP works on key projects that are recognised as having the opportunity to transform Swindon’s future.
The Swindon Economic Development Vision and Framework
One of the SSEP’s first activities was the adoption of the Swindon Economic Development Vision and Framework which considers the strategic growth of Swindon over the period to 2026. It describes an ambitious scenario of sustainable and ‘smart’ economic growth across the following four building blocks:
- Business Creation and Growth
- Regenerating and Creating Places
- Improving Swindon’s Image and Culture
- Raising Skills and Labour Market Participation
