Independent Remuneration Panel on Councillors Allowances

There is a vacancy for a representative from the business community to serve on the Swindon Independent Remuneration Panel on Councillors Allowances.

Background - The Swindon Independent Remuneration Panel on Councillors’ Allowances was originally established in 2001.  It operates under the provisions of the Local Authorities (Members Allowances) (England) Regulations 2003. These Regulations require that all councils should set up independent panels, and take account of their advice, before changing their councillors’ allowances scheme and levels of allowances paid to councillors. The Council’s Standards Committee oversees the composition and appointments procedure associated with the establishment and maintenance of the Independent Remuneration Panel. The Panel reports its recommendations to Swindon Council’s Cabinet who in turn make recommendations to the Full Council; and because of their remit also to parish and town councils within the Borough of Swindon.

Contact Ian Willcox, Committee and Member Services Manager, for more details.
