Regenerating Places/Growth

Role and Purpose

To drive the regeneration of Swindon by supporting, and advising on, the development of policies that impact regeneration including those related to design, sustainability, and development.

Background

The Group is being formed in support of the development currently being undertaken to regenerate Swindon.  With an ambitious growth agenda comes a huge challenge – to preserve and create the quality of development that the residents of Swindon can be proud of into the future.

Priorities

The Group will have an evolving role. Primarily, it will be a think-tank to bring forward ideas in support of the regeneration of Swindon, and to consider how those ideas can best be implemented to secure the maximum benefit for the Town. It will also help to drive action plans and focus the regeneration priorities.

Membership

This Group is still in the process of formation so membership criteria is still being developed and may change. Currently, membership of the group will be a mix of Council officers with responsibility for Economic Development & Regeneration (Bill Cotton & Dave Potter), the Cabinet Member for Regeneration (Cllr Phil Young), lead members of organisations & groups with a role in Swindon’s regeneration, and private sector representatives.

The bodies with a role for regeneration on this group include InSwindon (the Business Improvement District company for the Town Centre), the Inward Investment Group (chaired by James Lockhart), and the New Swindon Company. Where possible, the group seeks to secure private sector representation on behalf of these bodies.  The Group will be chaired by a private sector representative to ensure it is business-driven.
